Rooted in China since 1984, IHG is one of the first international hotels group that entered China. IHG now has more than 200 hotels in Greater China, becoming the largest international hotel management company in Greater China and the largest employer in China’s hotel industry. In 2008, IHG launched its fifth brand - Hotel Indigo® in Asia Pacific. The first Hotel Indigo® in the region was located at Pier 16 on the bund in Shanghai. Based on the deep understanding of Chinese market and the group’s strong ability to develop new brands, IHG launched the industry’s first hotel brand designed for the Chinese consumer – HUALUXETM HOTELS AND RESORTS in March, 2012.

During IHG’s three decades’ growth in China, we have made great contributions to make China’s hotel industry in line with the international ones. IHG’s leadership in Greater China includes being the first to launch a reservation call centre in China, first to establish the first Chinese booking website, the first international hotel group in China to accept locally-issued bank cards for online hotel reservations, the first title sponsor of the Asian Tour by the Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, the first international hotel brand, Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, in more than 10 cities in China, the first and the only international hotel management company to take Greater China region as an standalone region to report to headquarters and the launch of the first hotel brand designed for the Chinese consumer - HUALUXETM HOTELS AND RESORTS.
